It’s always incredible to see a useful product make a real, tangible difference. It’s also incredible when that product just so happens to be ours!

Bigbelly bins and our super Spanish team are making waves in the Spanish waste management world.

In this blog post, we want to first off say well done to our Spanish team, and also give a big shout-out to our fantastic client, Fuengirola City Council. We worked together to create a waste management strategy that works for everyone – most importantly, the people of Fuengirola.

Let’s take a look at the project itself and where we hope to go with it over the next few years.

Where we started
It all began way back in 2023 – the City Council came to us with a goal of improving the overall look and feel of the city, keeping streets clean, and optimising their waste collection times.

They needed a service that was reliable, fast, and data-driven. And we delivered! Our CLEAN software is built for exactly this kind of challenge. It helps teams identify rubbish hotspots, sends real-time notifications when bins need emptying, and acts as a smart planning tool for more effective, streamlined waste collection.

We started with a number of bins dotted around the city to get a better sense of the best locations and ways to move the project forward.

Where we are now
Now, in 2025, we are delighted to say that the project is thriving. The facts speak for themselves:

• 54 smart bins installed
• 90% reduction in collections
• Increased citizen recycling
• Improved cleanliness and experience for residents

Seeing happy citizens recycling and enjoying their public spaces is really at the heart of it – what it’s all about.

We all know the wonderful feeling of visiting a clean city or town – how many of us have come back from a holiday and commented on how beautiful the place was, how clean?

This isn’t a magic trick – it’s down to careful city planning and dedicated teams of people all working away behind the scenes to make it happen.

And we are proud to be a small cog in that sustainable machine.
