Dublin Airport is one of the busiest transport hubs in Europe, welcoming millions of passengers every year. With high footfall comes the challenge of keeping the forecourt and ground transport area clean, efficient, and aligned with ambitious sustainability goals.
The Dublin Airport Authority (daa) has set a target to reach 60% recycling by 2030. To support this, Future Street has partnered with the daa to install Bigbelly smart bins across key areas of the airport.
Bigbelly was the clear choice for Dublin Airport. Why? Because when you’re welcoming thousands of passengers a day, it doesn’t take long for bins to overflow, litter to scatter, and birds to show up where they’re not wanted.
We directly tackle these issues by offering an enclosed, solar-powered solution. And we’re very proud to say it’s already making a big difference. Here’s how:
- Reducing litter and bird activity: As we’ve said above, birds can be a major concern at airports. The enclosed Bigbelly design prevents birds from accessing waste and helps keep public areas cleaner.
- Improving recycling rates: With clearly labelled bins and smarter waste separation, Bigbelly supports daa’s mission to introduce more effective, passenger-friendly recycling.
- Managing peak-time capacity: Each unit is designed to handle high volumes of waste, compacting rubbish and signalling when it’s ready for collection.
- Cutting down collections: Fewer daily pick-ups means fewer emissions and more efficient use of staff time.
- Real-time data tracking: The daa team can monitor bin usage and collection needs remotely, using our CLEAN software data to guide smarter operational decisions.
At Future Street, our team are looking forward to continuing to support Dublin Airport in their drive to improve sustainability and efficiency.
Our work with airports across Europe focuses on optimising waste management infrastructure to meet environmental targets while improving the passenger experience.
Whether it’s installing bins in high-traffic terminals or rethinking how waste is handled in outdoor areas, our smart waste solutions are built for the world’s busiest locations.
“We’re excited to partner with Future Street on this sustainable initiative. Bigbelly’s smart bins provide valuable usage insights while their visibility boosts recycling. The enclosed design keeps the area cleaner making a real difference for passengers.”
