Located in the southeast of Mallorca, Ses Salines is a small unassuming town with a rich history. The town’s name derives from their salt activity and production, literally meaning ‘source of salt.’ The salt pans act as habitats for many birds, making it an ideal location for birdwatching and attracts many fanatics from all over the globe.

From bird watchers to history lovers, the varied coastline of Ses Salines allows for a range of activities to be enjoyed by visitors and locals, including hiking, biking, sailing and kayaking. All the major attractions are also natural, including their beaches and national park. After the annual harvest, visitors can also explore the salt flats that transform into mountains.

The valued salt production in the area has led to the Fira de la Sal i les Espècies that takes place every April and May in the neighbouring Colonia de Sant Jordi. The salt produced in Ses Salines is celebrated at the fair with an array of salt related products and items on offer for people to purchase.

Sustainable Waste Management

In an effort to improve their waste management and enhance their public spaces Colònia de Saint Jordi recently installed 4 Bigbelly Smart Max stations along the sea front and main streets. Our Bigbelly smart stations will help Ses Salines and Colònia de Saint Jordi achieve these goals through the smart technology and features, including:

Automatic Notifications – When the bins are full, operatives will receive notifications allowing crews to streamline collections and avoid unnecessary collection trips. They will also be alerted of potential overflows before they happen, ensuring the streets remain clean and free of wind-blown litter.

Compactor Mechanism – The built-in compactor crushes waste down allowing up to 5 times more waste capacity than a standard litter bin. This ensures the town and its collection crews are prepared for peak seasons and increased visitor numbers.

Fully Enclosed Design – The fully enclosed hopper interface eliminates visible litter as well as bird and pest access, meaning once litter is deposited it remains inside and prevents scavenging.

These smart features, among many others, will help Ses Salines to optimise their operations while keeping the streets clean and welcoming for both visitors and locals.

We are proud to be working with Ses Salines and Colònia de Saint Jordi to create cleaner, smarter and more efficient public spaces.
