Because if it was good enough for the Romans…
Starting Small, Thinking Big It started with six humble bins. But not just any bins, our solar-powered, sensor-smart, waste-compacting bins. Placed strategically along Lincoln’s High Street and Cornhill, they were part of a pilot project by the City of Lincoln Council aimed at reducing litter and keeping the city centre looking sharp.
And it worked. Really, really well.
A Staggering Waste Capacity In just under two years, our Bigbelly bins have processed an eye-watering 1.8 million litres of waste, that’s a lot of discarded coffee cups, chip wrappers, and who knows what else. The results spoke for themselves, and now Lincoln has added another four bins, bringing the total to ten.
Keeping History Clean Lincoln’s beautiful streetscapes, rich with medieval and Roman heritage, deserve to be shown off at their best. As Councillor Bob Bushell says, “No visible waste and no windblown litter, keeping our city’s High Street clean and presentable.”
A Worthwhile Investment The initial investment for the six-bin pilot has clearly paid dividends. Not just in cleaner streets, but in smarter waste management, reduced labour time, and a better city experience for residents and visitors alike.
It’s just one of the small, sustainable steps Lincoln is taking to protect its heritage and look to the future.
