We are delighted to announce the successful installation of 30 Bigbelly Smart Max stations across South Derbyshire Parks, including, Marice Lea Park, Eureka Park and Newhall Park.
The new stations have been strategically deployed across these sites, helping South Derbyshire District Council enhance waste management operations while improving the experience for residents and visitors alike.
James Tams, Head of Operations, South Derbyshire DC explains that this project isn’t just about “replacing litter bins” but “assessing how innovative technology can help increase capacity, improve productivity, enhance the appearance of our parks” while also supporting “the fantastic work carried out every day by our Parks and Green Spaces teams.”
Supporting Cleaner and More Efficient Parks
Public parks play a vital role in local communities, providing spaces for recreation, exercise, relaxation, and social interaction. As visitor numbers continue to grow, managing waste efficiently becomes increasingly important to maintaining attractive and welcoming environments.
The introduction of Bigbelly Smart Max stations will significantly increase waste collection capacity throughout the parks. Equipped with smart technology, the units are designed to hold over twice as much waste than traditional bins, reducing the likelihood of overflowing units and wind-blown litter.
By maximising capacity and streamlining collection schedules, the new installations will help ensure that South Derbyshire’s parks remain clean, tidy, and enjoyable for all throughout the year.
Driving Operational Efficiency
One of the key advantages of our Bigbelly Smart Max technology is its ability to improve operational efficiency for waste collection teams.
The increased capacity of the stations means collections can be carried out less frequently while still maintaining high standards of cleanliness. This allows parks and green space teams to allocate their resources more effectively, reducing unnecessary collection trips and focusing their efforts where they are needed most.
As a result, staff productivity can be enhanced, helping South Derbyshire to deliver a more efficient service while making better use of time and resources.
Enhancing the Appearance of Public Spaces
Beyond operational benefits, the new stations also contribute to the overall appearance of the parks.
The modern, enclosed design of our Bigbelly units helps create cleaner public spaces while also promoting local initiatives and preventing over flowing or visible waste. This not only improves the visual appeal but also helps create a more positive experience for visitors.
Visitors can enjoy well-maintained surroundings that reflect the council’s ongoing commitment to investing in high-quality public amenities and green spaces.
Supporting South Derbyshire’s Green Spaces Teams
The installation forms part of a wider effort to support the fantastic work carried out every day by South Derbyshire’s Parks and Green Spaces teams.
These dedicated teams work tirelessly to maintain the district’s parks, ensuring they remain safe, attractive, and accessible for the community. By providing innovative waste management solutions, the new Bigbelly stations help make that task easier and more efficient.
Looking Ahead
We are proud to partner with South Derbyshire in delivering smarter waste management solutions that help create cleaner, greener, and more sustainable public spaces.
The successful installation of these Bigbelly stations highlights the growing role of smart technology in modern public realm management. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these units will have for visitors of the parks and operational teams alike.
Together, we are helping build cleaner communities, improving public spaces, and supporting the people who work every day to keep them looking their best.
“This project has been about far more than simply replacing litter bins.”
