We’re delighted to celebrate the successful installation of 30 Bigbelly Smart Max stations at the beautiful Ostsee Resort Damp!

Located directly on the Baltic Sea, Damp offers around four kilometres of sandy beach and the perfect setting for a varied seaside holiday. From holiday homes and log cabins to dog-friendly accommodation, restaurants, and children’s play areas, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

Cleaner beaches, Fewer Seagulls and Pests

As in many coastal towns, seagulls know exactly where to look for their next meal. Thanks to the fully enclosed design of our smart waste stations, however, birds and other animals are unable to access the waste. This helps prevent litter from being scattered by wind or wildlife, creating a cleaner, tidier, and more welcoming environment for guests.

Smart Support for High Visitor Numbers

Damp welcomes large numbers of visitors throughout the year, making it the ideal location for our Bigbelly stations to show what they can do. Every Smart Max station is equipped with smart sensors that monitor and transmit fill levels in real time. This allows teams on site to see exactly when a collection is needed and respond quickly during particularly busy periods.

The results speak for themselves: just a few months after installation, Damp has already reduced collections by 80% and achieved a 67% increase in efficiency!

The built-in compactor also plays an important role. By automatically compressing waste, it provides up to five times the capacity of a standard litter bin, allowing significantly more waste to be collected before the bin needs emptying.

Bigbelly stations are also ready to support the many events held in and around Damp throughout the year, from the Kappeln Fish Market in July to the New Year’s Eve Gala in December. Even during periods of high visitor numbers, they help keep public spaces clean while preserving the natural beauty of Damp and its Baltic Sea coastline.

At the same time, staff can dedicate valuable time to other tasks, as bins only need to be emptied when it is genuinely necessary.

The installation in Damp is a great example of how innovative technology can help create cleaner, smarter, and more efficient public spaces – benefiting guests, staff, and the environment.
